Thatcham Library- facing cuts

The Conservative controlled West Berkshire countil has voted to close one library (Wash Common) and lay off professional staff in other libraries, hoping to replace them with volunteers. Speaking at the meeting where the cuts were approved, Liberal Democrat Councillor Lee Dillon warned that this may not secure the future of the library service, and asked what contingency plans exist if the needed volunteers do not materialize. As residents have commented, Berkshire is a well off county, and these cuts are a purely political choice by the Tories.
