Liberal Democrat Amendment to Annual Revenue Budget 2007/8 - Item 11
HEADLINE DETAILS
* Increase council tax by 2.8%
Investment:
* £40,000 to provide two extra Neighbourhood Wardens for the district.
* £4,000 to invest in Parent as First Teachers Scheme (PAFT) to keep the programme at Mrs Bland's Infant School, Burghfield Common, running.
* £17,000 invested in outreach project - to support people with additional needs across the district.
* £27,000 to reinstate the trainee educational psychologist post deleted in the Conservative budget. This is an `invest to save' post which will allow us to what West Berkshire does best - `grow our own'.
* An additional £25,000 invested in community safety. For example, graffiti removal kits for wardens.
TOTAL INVESTMENT REQUIRED: £113,000
Genuine disinvestment in low priority areas:
* 0.5 FTE removed from RAISE for Community Services. We believe this is another area where we could `grow our own'. This would free up £17,500. (Page 81 council papers).
* 0.5 FTE removed from RAISE for Children's Services. We could grow our own officer champion for this service between the two Directorates - £17,500. (Page 82).
* Additional £20,000 efficiency savings from Community Services. (Page 89).
* Further savings from reduction in the courier service as a result of proposed `paperless' councillors - £10,000. (Page 91).
* Additional Chief Executive's Directorate efficiency savings - £10,000. (Page 92).
* Cut the CPA budget by £38,000 (Page 84).
TOTAL DISINVESTMENT: £113,000.
