Excellent Local Campaigner Standing in Thatcham North12.00.00am GMT Fri 14th Mar 2008
Hard working local campaigner Glyn Slater has been selected as the Lib Dem candidate for the Thatcham North by-election on 10th April. Glyn and his family have lived in Thatcham North for 31 years. He wants to work hard to improve Thatcham's Community Spirit. Glyn is passionate about his town and is enthusiastic about becoming a councillor. He has been heavily involved in the local community as a member of the Parent Teacher Association at Francis Baily school, where his two children were educated. Glyn said, "My priority is to make Thatcham a safer place to live. Anti-social behavior, vandalism and petty crime are a big problem. This is why the Lib Dems on Thatcham Town Council have put aside over half of the money for an extra Neighbourhood Warden. We are now calling for Conservative controlled West Berkshire Council to pay their share. Glyn has been leading the campaign for a new pedestrian crossing on Harts Hill Road near Vincent Road. Glyn said "Speeding cars make it dangerous for children to cross Harts Hill Road on their way to school. A new pedestrian crossing would make it much safer for local children to walk to Francis Baily and the Kennet Schools, as well as the children's play area and skatepark on Dunstan Green." It's not too late to add your name to Glyn's online petition at http://campaigns.libdems.org.uk/saferroutestoschool
