Theale Parking Study delays 'unacceptable' - Macro12.26.19pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 5th Jul 2007
Councillor Alan Macro, who represents Theale on West Berkshire Council has this week lambasted the Conservative administration for the continuing lengthy delays holding up action on the Theale Parking Study. "This is an important document for Theale as it will have a significant impact on parking in the village," commented Councillor Macro, "Currently people are unable to park near their own houses or even in their own road, which is clearly unacceptable. Actions proposed in the Theale Parking Study will go some way to rectifying these problems, but under the Conservative administration it has been left to drift quite severely. The original study was started in 2005. Theale is obviously not on their priority list as action on the Parking Study has been continuously delayed, most recently from March to July and then to August, for no discernible reason. In the meantime problems are getting worse and the study is getting out of date. Parking charges by Great Western Trains at Theale station have been increased from £2-50 to £3-50 per day since the study, and this is the cause of many of the problems. On current trends, I am not optimistic that anything will happen before the autumn, but I would like to reassure Theale residents that I will keep up the pressure to get this sorted for once and for all."
