"Pinchington Lane - make it fit for purpose" - Farrin12.02.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 15th Feb 2007 Lib Dem waste spokesman John Farrin has today revealed that the West Berkshire Liberal Democrats' preferred waste site is Pinchington Lane. In a preview of new waste proposals contained in the Lib Dems' forthcoming manifesto, Councillor Farrin outlined the reasons why Pinchington Lane could be the solution to the waste problems facing West Berkshire. "Pinchington Lane can and should be improved and upgraded to deal with West Berkshire's rubbish. The site is large enough and capable of processing the district's waste in a well-supported wider waste environment. The Tories want to needlessly create a brand new waste site, but we want to make good what we've got. Lib Dem-led West Berkshire Council would additionally offer a reliable cardboard and plastic kerbside collection service, naturally reducing the burden on Pinchington Lane. Our plan is acknowledged by waste experts to be viable and sustainable." Councillor Farrin stressed that the site could reap the benefits of a strategic waste plan and continued improvements: "If we upgrade Pinchington Lane and do better kerbside recycling, why do we need a brand new waste site with very limited extra capacity? Lib Dem would continue to add to the raft of improvements we began at the site, and improve access to Pinchington Lane. We want to offer a 'can do' positive attitude to waste management in West Berkshire and firmly believe this is the best solution for everyone."
