Keith Woodhams has expressed his disappointment over the Council's proposed footway improvements

Councillor Keith Woodhams has this week slammed the Council's programme of footway improvements for the year for not extending evenly across the whole of West Berkshire.

"The list of footway improvements to be carried out reads like the Conservative ward list - 23 out of the 33 footways recommended for improvement are in Conservative wards. It seems to me that although the Conservative Council is spending money taxed from West Berkshire residents as a whole - they are only prepared to put their hands in their pockets for certain areas."

In future years the Council plans to follow a 'rolling' programme of footpath improvements in West Berkshire.

Councillor Woodhams added:

"I am extremely disappointed that the many footways falling into disrepair elsewhere in the District, for example in Newbury and Thatcham, do not seem to be getting a fair slice of the cake."
