Dundee LibDems welcome news on climate change

West Berks Lib Dems are working to combat climate change

West Berkshire Council Liberal Democrats today confirmed their intention to work with the Conservatives to develop a Climate Change Strategy to inform on all aspects the Council's activities, as announced to the media early in July.

Dr Royce Longton, Lib Dem Spokesman on the Environment said:

"Combatting Climate Change is undoubtedly one of the greatest challenges facing mankind. I am delighted that we will be working with the Conservatives to develop a strategy that will minimise carbon emissions from Council-run property by maximising energy efficiency and use of renewable sources of energy. Once our own house is in order we shall then be in a position to take the lead in encouraging sustainable practices throughout the West Berkshire Community, working through the Local Strategic Partnership.

This will take time, but there are also actions we can take without delay. For example, the Council is already incorporating ambitious targets for carbon economy in new developments within our Local Development Framework, and we must now move forward towards implementing our existing Green Travel Plan as a matter of urgency."
