Lib. Dem. Councillor opposes Greenham waste site proposals7.45.16pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 18th Jul 2006 West Berkshire Councillor for Greenham, Julian Swift-Hook, has outlined his concerns over Conservative proposals to locate a new household waste facility at Greenham. Councillor Swift-Hook commented: "I, and my colleague Billy Drummond, fully sympathise with the concerns raised recently by the Deadmans Lane Residents' Association about this waste site. I have had grave reservations about this proposal for a long time, but have been unable to comment so far as I have been bound by the Code of Conduct for Councillors." It is thought that the noise from cars and vans entering and leaving the site, on top of the noise generated by the waste facility itself will become intolerable for locals. Councillor Swift-Hook continued: "The planned access arrangements are dangerous and will cause even worse traffic jams on the A339 than those we are already experiencing. Now I have spoken against the plan I will not be able to vote at the planning meeting but feel this is a small price to pay to voice my concerns. Billy Drummond and I would like to strongly urge our colleagues who sit on the Planning Committee to reject this proposal and preserve the tranquility of life in Greenham."
