Job advert in West Berkshire6.00.42pm GMT Fri 17th Mar 2006 Group Support Officer (Ref: 00041), West Berkshire Unitary Council, Full Time: 37hours per week, Permanent £19,053 - £24,000 (pay Award 2.95% from 1 April ); The job is located in Newbury, Berkshire. Do you have good organisational skills and knowledge of current issues affecting both central and local Government? If so you may be the person we need to support the Liberal Democrat Group Members of West Berkshire Council. Working closely with the Leader and other Members of the Group, the successful candidate will be required to undertake administrative tasks, co-ordinate, attend and manage meetings of the Group and project work ensuring effective communication across the Group. This post requires some analytical and research skills but, more importantly, good interpersonal, organisational and communication skills together with a high degree of political awareness and sensitivity. The post will also act as the first point of contact for Lib Dem councillors' IT problems and a good understanding of IT is essential. With attention to detail, and working to deadlines with flexibility and resilience, the successful candidate will also require the ability to motivate and influence at all levels. Attendance at a number of evening meetings will be necessary for which time off in lieu will be given. West Berkshire Council is currently a Conservative run Council with 27 Conservative Councillors, 24 Lib Dems and 1 Independent Councillor. All members of the Council are up for re-election in May 2007.
