The Market Place could be transformed.

Following receipt of the information from the Task Group set up by the Town Centre Steering Group, this week the final stages of public consultation were underway for the exciting Market Place enhancements, the Liberal Democrats who run West Berkshire Council were pleased to announce.

The plan, which is depicted in leaflets being handed out on Market Place, show a bold new vision for Newbury town centre which was inspired by the original public consultation. The new consultation is geared to sort out the details of the enhancement.

In the main part, these enhancements complement and develop the improvements made during the 1990s.

Peter Atkinson, Chairman of the Town Centre Management Group said:

"This scheme is part of the Vision for Newbury 2025 for Newbury town centre and will transform the Market Place into a public space of which Newbury can be proud. This is a continuation of the enhancement that benefited Market Place during the mid-1990s. The current project adds to the good work which has already been achieved."

John Ince, Chairman of the Newbury Retail Association, said:

"I know there have been questions raised about the cost of the scheme. The boost to the economy by these enhancements will be considerable, and the vision will show good value for money for what retailers have told us they want to see."
