Originally from Southampton and now living in Greenham, I have been a Newbury area resident for more than 25 years. I have been a Lib Dem Member of Newbury Town Council since its inception in 1997, and I have been proud to represent Greenham on West Berkshire Council and on Greenham Parish Council since 2000.
As a Councillor I am particularly involved in planning matters, having chaired both the Planning and Development Committee and Western Area Planning Committee. I am interested in "green" issues, both professionally and as a Councillor, with a particular focus on wind and wave energy.
I am Shadow Executive Member for Adult Social Care, Equalities, and ICT, holding the Council's Conservative administration to account on these important issues. Adult Social Care is a particularly difficult issue at the moment; people are living longer and therefore needing help and support from the Council, but Council funding is limited and is being spread very thinly. There are no easy answers, but we must keep focussed on the vulnerable members of our society and make sure that they are properly cared for.
I am also Chair of the Greater Greenham Project Board; the Greater Greenham Project is bringing together all of the groups and organisations who work in Greenham - the housing organisation (Sovereign), the District and local Councils, the emergency services, health services, youth and community groups, the Greenham Common Trust, etc - so that everyone is working jointly rather than independently for the greater good of Greater Greenham. A year into the project, and the outcomes for Greenham so far are definitely great!
