West Berkshire residents could soon benefit from a host of measures designed to ease the pressure of the credit crunch, if a Liberal Democrat motion is successful at next week's meeting of West Berkshire Council.
Lib Dem Member for Theale, Alan Macro, who is bringing the motion to Council, explained how the proposals could help in difficult financial times. "Many West Berkshire householders will be facing big bills this Christmas. These measures are simple steps such as referring people in financial difficulties to debt advisory services and investigating the possibility of a mortgage rescue scheme. While they are simple, they could also make a big difference to people who are struggling to manage money. It also includes proposals to run a 'Good Neighbour Campaign' where neighbours keep an eye out for each other, to make sure the elderly and vulnerable in particular have enough food and heat this winter. If passed, this motion could go a long way to helping those most in need."
