Lib Dems think twenty's plenty outside schools
West Berkshire's Liberal Democrats brought a motion proposing to introduce 20mph limits outside the district's schools to last night's meeting of full council.
The motion, which read, "In consultation with the schools in the district, this Council resolves to introduce 20mph speed limits on roads outside West Berkshire's schools", was directed to the council's Safer, Stronger and Sustainable Communities Policy Development Commission for further work.
Liberal Democrat Group Leader Jeff Brooks commented:
"The 20mph limit outside schools is something we have been pushing for for some time and was included in our manifesto in May. The motion was referred to a Policy Development Commission which will deliberate on it and then it will come back to full council for resolution on their recommendations. We would anticipate that this should only take a couple of months but the administration is prone to letting important issues drift so it may be some time before full council sees it again.
"We have received widespread support for this move from parents and parish councils and we will do everything we can to ensure that it does not get bogged down in the rather lackadaisical approach which we are constantly seeing from the Administration".
