West Berkshire Liberal Democrats are urging council waste chief, Geoff Findlay to come clean
over the new waste contract which should be in place by now. They are concerned that the
proposed and delayed waste contract might not be all it seems. Shadow Waste
spokesperson, Councillor Royce Longton commented:
"Geoff Findlay needs to come clean over this waste contract and stop muddying the
waters. Lib Dems have already revealed that the full plastics collection he promised
will now be limited to plastic bottles only. Now we want to know exactly what will be
collected and how often. People need to know how many wheelie bins and other
containers they are going to have to fit into their gardens, and they deserve honesty
over the frequency of the collections."
Councillor Longton's Liberal Democrat Council colleague, David Rendel, added:
"I challenged the Conservative Leader of the Council to release the proposed terms of
the new waste contract when he insisted on discussing them in secret at a meeting last
week. Instead of agreeing to make the terms public at that meeting, he claimed that
they were a matter of commercial confidentiality."
