Lib Dems are asking the Tories why Newbury's cinema plans have been hit by serious delays
West Berkshire Liberal Democrats' new Finance spokesperson, Councillor David Rendel, will this week be demanding information from the Conservatives over the delays to the Newbury cinema plans.
At Thursday's meeting of the council's Executive, Councillor Rendel will be asking for a precise starting date for the building of the new cinema.
"The people of West Berkshire have been waiting for many years for a cinema. It was on the point of being constructed two years ago when the Conservatives took over control of the Council. Since then, there appears to have been no further progress", explained Councillor Rendel.
"Despite claiming that the plan for the cinema was a waste of public money, during the General Election the Tories promised that they would continue with it. We would like to know why two years later nothing more seems to have happened, and when we can expect building to start. Many Newbury residents are beginning to worry whether the Conservatives are really committed to the plan at all."
