Clay Hill councillor Phil Barnett and his town council colleagues have carried out a survey of local residents about Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) passing through Turnpike and Kiln Roads.
As a result of the survey over 350 Clay Hill residents have signed up to a petition calling for a weight restriction on both Kiln and Turnpike Roads.
"The numbers of HGVs using Turnpike and Kiln Roads have a significant impact on quality of life for those living nearby," commented Phil. "Not only are they dangerous, but noisy and smelly and very often travelling faster than they should be. This petition asks for a weight restriction which would prevent HGVs using these routes, with an exception for access only. This request clearly has widespread support and I will be driving the proposal forward."
Clay Hill town council members will be presenting the petition to the next meeting of the Newbury Area Forum, which is due to take place on 18th April.
