A packed hall cheered the launch of the Liberal Democrat manifesto
Nearly 90 Liberal Democrat members and supporters from across West Berkshire packed out Newbury Rugby Club on Friday evening to mark the launch of the Liberal Democrat election manifesto for the May local elections.
A manifesto full of pledges for the next four years was delivered to the crowd by West Berkshire Liberal Democrat Group Leader Jeff Brooks, who commented:
"This is an ambitious but affordable set of pledges to make West Berkshire a fairer, safer and greener place to live. Liberal Democrats will deliver on commitments ranging from free bus travel for children to an additional mobile library and do it all within a tight financial commitment of keeping council tax at or below inflation for the next four years. Friday's atmosphere was lively and enthusiastic, and marks West Berkshire Liberal Democrats' dedication to winning this council back and continuing our good work on Newbury and Thatcham Town Councils."
Deputy Leader Denise Gaines enthused:
"Our manifesto is a product of many hours of hard work and a public consultation. It has something for everyone across our district and we have a keen and dedicated set of candidates who are committed to delivering these pledges in West Berkshire. We also held a very successful collection for Comic Relief and raised £173.97 for charity."
