West Berkshire Council Liberal Democrats have welcomed the proposal to create an Energy Officer post contained in the Conservative Administration's draft budget for discussion at this week's Executive.
"Such a post is vital to improve energy efficiency and reduce the Council's carbon footprint. It will save money in the long run by reducing electricity costs, and is vital to implementing our jointly agreed Climate Change Strategy", said Lib Dem Environment Spokesman, Dr Royce Longton.
Councillor Roger Hunneman, who also sits on the council's climate change working group, was concerned that the delay in the Conservatives introducing this post would have serious environmental consequences.
"It is such an important post that I fail to understand why the Conservatives rejected our proposal to include an Energy Officer post in last year's budget, thereby delaying by twelve months any serious effort to reduce the Council's carbon emissions."
