Hunneman welcomes solar panel success

February 15, 2007 12:00 AM

Green thinking Victoria Councillor Roger Hunneman was delighted to receive the news that his member bid to have solar panels installed on the roofs of West Berkshire Council and Newbury Central Library has been successful.

"It is excellent news that the Council is 'putting our own house in order' and following the example of Newbury Town Council, who are putting solar panels on the Town Council Offices. The money saved in the long term from generating a percentage of our own electricity can be put towards other projects."

Councillor Hunneman explained the process that would now be followed:

"The proposals now need to be examined for feasibility during the 2007-8 financial year. Provided that the grant funding is confirmed and that savings are achievable then the bids will be funded from the Council's "Invest to Save" funds. This will be an important step in the Council's future use of renewable energy to reduce its carbon emissions and I am delighted to have set the wheels in motion."
