Councillor Roger Hunneman has today welcomed the news that his member bid to have solar panels installed on the roofs of West Berkshire Council and Newbury Central Library will be discussed this week at a meeting of the Council's Capital Management Group.
Councillor Hunneman commented ahead of the meeting:
"I am delighted to hear that my bid has made it this far in the capital bid process. We really ought to be 'putting our own house in order' and following the example of Newbury Town Council, who are preparing to install solar panels on the Town Council offices. Generating a proportion of our own electricity sets a green example and could potentially free up money for other projects in the long run."
Councillor Hunneman also responded to initial assessments of the bids, saying:
"I am aware that repairs may need to be carried out to the Market Street office roof, and I would hope that a practical approach can be undertaken, combining these repairs with the installation of the panels would significantly reduce the costs of doing the two projects separately. It would be fantastic to see a real 'can do' approach coming out of the meeting later this week."
