Councillor Jeff Brooks, who chairs West Berkshire Council's Overview and Scrutiny Commission, the body responsible for holding the ruling Tory Executive to account, has today commented on the decision of the Liberal Democrat Group to call in the Executive's recent decision on staff car leasing arrangements:
"We have come to expect dismal levels of consultation from this Tory administration - they do not ask the West Berkshire public about anything affecting their day-to-day lives - similarly, they have not properly consulted West Berkshire Council staff about this scheme. Lib Dems are particularly concerned about remarks made by the trade union, which indicated they found the proposals divisive and devaluing. Unison also commented that they were concerned to see West Berkshire Council 'moving away from the open consultative style which has served it well since the Unitary authority was created'."
Councillor Brooks continued:
"By calling in this decision, the Overview & Scrutiny Commission will be able to look into the failure to consult with all members of staff, as well as look at how consistently the scheme can be administered across the various departments in West Berkshire Council."
