Liberal Democrats in Newbury will be out on the streets on Thursday, 26th October giving out leaflets supporting the national Lib Dem Green Tax Switch campaign - shifting taxes to help stop climate change.
Local Lib Dem Councillor Tony Vickers said:
"Liberal Democrats want to fundamentally change the way Britain is taxed. We need to switch to green taxes to switch off climate chaos. Governments currently tax good things - like work. We need to switch to taxing bad things instead - like pollution and carbon emissions. Green taxes can change our behaviour and safeguard our planet for our children and their children. This is about using taxes in a new way to change behaviour, not to raise money for the Government."
Anyone dropping by the stall will be given an opportunity to win a state-of-the-art waste disposal unit.
The Lib Dems will consider taking leaflets from any organisation with a green agenda.

Notes to Editor:
Lib Dem Green Tax Switch proposals include:
• Giving everyone a green income tax cut of 2p in the pound. This gives the average family an extra £1,000 a year in their pockets.
• Increasing green taxes as a share of national income. (Green taxes have fallen from 3.6% of GDP in 1999 to just 2.9% of GDP in 2005). The more people switching their behaviour, the more of the tax cut they will save.
• Keeping fuel duty in line with the rate of inflation to ensure there is always an incentive to save fuel.
Abolishing airport taxes, which tax each passenger. Instead each plane taking off will be taxed on its emissions - this would reward full flights and penalise half-empty ones
