The late night train from Paddington will be cut
Councillor Keith Woodhams has responded to the news that the last train for Theale, Thatcham and Newbury will now depart London at 10.15pm.
The new timetable published by First Great Western scraps the late night train which currently leaves London at 11.35pm.
Commenting on the decision which will see the changes come into force in December, West Berkshire Lib Dem Transport spokesman Keith Woodhams said:
"This deplorable decision will see many West Berkshire residents either stranded overnight in London, or curtail their activities in the capital. The last train will leave too early for evening football matches, theatre productions and other social engagements. I would like to take this opportunity to urge First Great Western to reconsider these cuts."
Councillor Woodhams continued:
"My colleague Councillor Owen Jeffery will be calling on the Executive Member for Transport to take action and write to First Great Western lamenting the loss of this service to West Berkshire and challenging them to reverse this decision at the Executive meeting on 7th September."
