Lib Dems feel that reducing refuse collections isn't a viable option at the moment
Lib Dem waste spokesman John Farrin has responded to reports of alternate week bin collections being introduced by the Conservative administration at West Berkshire Council.
"Whilst in principle the idea of reducing the quantity of waste we produce is an admirable one, the current situation in West Berkshire hardly lends itself to supporting a bin collection every other week.
You only have to look at the piles of rubbish overflowing at Pinchington Lane just weeks ago as well as Cllr Geoff Findlay's own admission that the Conservatives 'cannot cope' with the current levels of waste to see that alternate week collections are only going to cause more problems."
Councillor Farrin continued:
"Lib Dems want to see a fair deal for the public in West Berkshire - and until the situation at Pinchington Lane improves and vastly improved recycling facilities are in place, reducing refuse collections simply isn't a viable option."
