Councillor Sally Hannon has welcomed the recent turnaround over plans to build 13 flats on the site of Newbury's Register Office at Peake House.
Councillor Hannon added her voice to the relief expressed by St Johns residents who had fiercely opposed the plans.
"I was overwhelmed with letters of objection to the Council's proposals for Peake House. The planning officer recommended refusal and the application was withdrawn which is great news and I shall be very interested to see the new application."
The development at Peake House was to have included underground car parking and a roof terrace, and would have been a three storey building containing 13 apartments.
Councillor Hannon continued:
"A number of objectors raise the issue of wasting public money submitting such an obviously controversial application and I share their concern. I will be keeping a close eye on the new application to ensure that the Conservative Council wastes no more tax payer money."
