The result was:
Conservative 725 (74.59%) (+ 0.44%)
Liberal Democrat 151 (15.53%) (- 0.40%)
Labour 96 (9.88%) (- 0.04%)
(comparisons are with the previous (2003) result)
There were 3 spoiled papers. The turnout was an encouraging 45.3%.
The final outcome was thus virtually identical to 2003 in terms of vote share (when the Liberal Democrats were returned to control of the council) although the higher turnout meant that we attracted more votes compared with last time.
Stephen Bown said, "I should like to thank all those from the Newbury, Greater Reading and Wokingham parties who helped out during this campaign. In particular, my agent, James Cullen, has been tremendously supportive and I am especially grateful to him for all his hard work. We showed the Conservatives that the Liberal Democrats are capable of fighting an active and vigorous campaign in Pangbourne."
