Cllr Dr Longton, Leader of the Council, reading a resident's text message
Today the West Berkshire Liberal Democrat Councillors launched a new phase of E-communication with the electorate of the District.
A new website will be launched at www.westberks.gov.uk on Wednesday morning at 0900, designed to make it easier for residents to identify and contact local Councillors, and to keep Internet-users updated with the stories of the day.
Alongside the new website, the Liberal Democrats have launched an exciting innovation. The "TXT UR CLLR" scheme will allow residents to text their concerns, along with their name and postcode, to 07875 600658. The relevant member of the team will then take these concerns forwards.
Cllr Dr Royce Longton, Leader of the Council, said:
"The TXT UR CLLR scheme is an innovative way for voters to contact their Council. Not everyone wants the hassle of writing or ringing Councillors, or trying to work out who they should they should talk to.
"This scheme is quick, easy and hopefully will increase residents' contact with Councillors, especially younger people.
"I feel proud that the Liberal Democrats are at the cutting edge of resident communication."
Local resident James Cullen, 18, commented:
"This sounds like a great new way for people, especially young people, to contribute to how this Council is run. Well done to the Liberal Democrats for coming up with this idea."
