Royce Longton, Mollie and Keith Lock with David Rendel and Party President Simon Hughes MP, after accepting the awards
This week the West Berkshire Liberal Democrat Councillors were presented with second-place prizes in two prestigious awards from the Local Government Association Liberal Democrats.
The Group came second in both the categories offered: Best Group (Lib Dem) and Best Green Group (Lib Dem). Criteria for the awards included: innovation, involving the public; dispersing power and decision making; delivering best value; achieving sustainability; and making effective use of resources. Over one hundred Groups were eligible for the award.
Cllr Dr Royce Longton, Leader of the Council, said:
"To win second place in the only two categories of these awards in a phenomenal achievement. I feel this is a testament to how in touch with the electorate the Liberal Democrats are, how innovative and competent the Council is, and how this Council is improving year-on-year under the leadership of the Lib Dems."
Cllr Owen Jeffrey, Executive Member for Waste Management, said:
"I am especially pleased that we have been honoured in the Green category. The LGA were obviously pleased with West Berkshires recent strives towards sustainability, and our improving track record on recycling. In the next few years we will see our rate of recycling improve even further."
